This aircraft will depict "Our Bombay Baby" 463d Bombardment Group, 772 Bombardment Squadron, Foggia, Italy. My wife's grandfather was the ball turret gunner on this aircraft. This is my second build of this aircraft. My first build was given to my wife's grandfather for his 88th birthday and is at his house. He recently passed, but I don't have the heart to ask for the model back. It was a gift for him. I'm sure his wife still wants it. So, I am reprising the build for myself. Mike Grant did a custom set of decals for this bird when he found out it was for a crew member. He had two sets printed. Starting with the flight deck parts:Flight Deck assembled. I use Model Master Enamel. The green is Green Zinc Chromate. The tan is Wood. The pilot/ copilot seats are Model Master Medium Green with dark green cushion, olive drab belts and leather head rest. The flight control boots are paint Testors Brown. The Nav and bombardier seats are Olive drab with brown cushions and olive drab belts. The aft flight deck bulkhead is green zinc chromate with olive drab reservoirs and red fire extinguisher. Once all painted I glossed coated everything. Once dry, I applied a black acrylic wash to the green areas and a brown acrylic wash to the tan areas. Here's a quick shot of the completed base:
This a pre-made table top I picked up from Lowe's. The tarmac was drawn out and painted with Testors FX Gravel Gray textured paint. The grass is Woodland Scenics.
